Protecting Our Communities

PA 233 Takes Power Away from Our Communities

Leveraging unused land to generate revenue for our community and cut utility costs for locals — that makes sense. Selling and destroying healthy farmland to force solar projects where they will not offset the value loss — that is what PA 233 enables, and it is wrong.

The Problem

What PA 233 Actually Does

Public Act 233 changes how large-scale energy projects — wind farms, solar installations, and battery storage facilities — get sited in Michigan. Under this law, the Michigan Public Service Commission gains authority to approve these projects statewide.

The critical problem: if a local township or county government denies a project based on the concerns of the people who live there, the developer can appeal directly to the MPSC and get that decision overturned.

In practice, this means a community's elected officials — the ones closest to the people — can say no, and Lansing can say yes anyway.

Affected Communities in District 89

These communities deserve a meaningful voice in what gets built in their backyards. PA 233 threatens to take that voice away.

  • Coopersville
  • Wright Township
  • Polkton Township

These communities — and many others across the district — should have the final word on large-scale energy development in their jurisdictions.

Patrick's Commitment

I Will Fight to Restore Local Control

Lansing shouldn't get the final say over our communities. These are Patrick's commitments to the people of District 89.

Protect Local Decision-Making

Communities should have the final say over what gets built in their backyards — not a state commission in Lansing.

Stand with Residents & Local Officials

Elected township and county officials reflect the will of the people who live there. Their decisions deserve to be respected, not overridden.

Push Back on Top-Down Mandates

PA 233 is exactly the kind of top-down overreach Patrick will fight against in Lansing — unelected commissions shouldn't trump community voices.
